Hello all!! So I will be doing the walk for the first time and just had a question. I come from NJ and I was wondering how most people get to DC. Do you drive up that day or the night before and stay? Any help would be appreciated. You can PM me or email me at stolarz29@gmail.com.

Thanks!!
Rose

Sorry, I'm no help Rose. When I went to the walk I flew up (I think) and stayed with a friend.

Good luck figuring it out!

Willowsmom and I will be flying, but we're in Missouri. This year, we're coming in on Friday and leaving Sunday. The walk starts pretty early on Saturday, so I would recommend going Friday (or even before, if possible ^_^ ). If you're looking for not-insanely-priced but not-sketchy hotels, there are some good ones in Maryland, and I know that several people have stayed in Arlington (VA) and had a nice time. And from personal experience, there are some very nice restaurants there.

We (various permutations of my family) have done the DC-Philadelphia drive MANY times, and I would think that NJ would be fairly similar. There are a few rest stops with a really good fast food selection along the way. Driving *in* DC itself can get crazy, particularly if you're trying to drive into the city. So if you stay in MD or VA...take a cab. (DC has a usually-good Metro system, but when it's overcrowded they start shutting down stations, and things get really nasty really fast. I wish I did not know this firsthand).

If you decide to fly, which airport you fly into should depend entirely on convenience-price. We have done both BWI and National, and both of them are...well, they are. Which is pretty much all you can say about airports right now. Also, BWI is *crazy* if you're trying to rent a car. The rental place--for all the companies--is, like, a 10 minute bus ride from the airport itself. The security lines are shorter than the ones in Philadelphia, though. :o)
