Here's a cl*****ic user preference when it comes to computers.
We know that some like Mac computers over Windows computer--or Linux over Windows--but one that always gets me is what web browser people tend to prefer. Windows has Internet Explorer (IE); Mozilla has Firefox--sometimes found on Linux machines--and Mac has Safari. I put the question to the members on this forum: Which browser do you like, and or use the most? I am mixed between Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. I like Internet Explorer because it was my first web browser; I'm used to it and I need it to view my applications at work. I like Firefox because it's faster, it has a lot of the same functions as IE, it has tabs--IE7 came out with the tabs, but Firefox and Safari came out with s tabs before IE--and it tends to be more secure than Internet Explorer. ------------------------- BUS 374 returns as BUS 432! I use firefox. I find it faster and everybit as user friendly as internet explorer. The download window that pops up annoys me sometimes and everytime I think I might turn that feature off I find a use for it.

I am all about Firefox. I've been using it since it was just called 'Mozilla'...heck, I used to use Netscape Navigator, which is what Firefox was originally based on.
I don't really have a problem with Microsoft (and I use a Win XP laptop), but just...IE, blech. And now that Silverlight (MS's version of Flash video, which happens to be what Netflix uses) functions in Firefox, I'm golden. ------------------------- Proud captain of the Battlestar Epileptica Seizing the day since 2002 "You should see the way my brain works sometimes." I actually do have a confession:
I Liked Internet Explorer 5, hated IE6, loved IE7 and so far, I like IE8. In fact I feel safer using IE8. The Release Candidate for IE8 for Win XP is on Microsft's website. The secure feature of IE8 is called InPrivate Browsing. What it does is it block 3rd-party websites from viewing your browsing habits, and it also keeps Internet Explorer from storing cookies and Internet temp files on your computer. ------------------------- BUS 374 returns as BUS 432! Can't stand Internet Explorer....seems to have too many bugs and security last I knew wasn't that great unless it's better now.
For my desktop/laptop I always go with Mozilla Firefox. It's easy to use, seems to have better security features over IE and as said above, faster. However, I recently got an Ipod Touch and it used Safari. Can't say that I necessarily like or dislike it as of yet - so far its tolerable and I have no choice, no others are available (least to my knowledge). One thing that gets me aggravated all the time, is when you do a search and you either get results that have absolutely nothing to do with what you searched or the page(s) don't exist anymore but are still listed. haha ok so that was more than one! Question: Do those things have to do with the browser!? ------------------------- ========================== age: 36 - diagnosed with E at age 9. This has been an option in Firefox from the beginning. :o) As far as Safari goes, I'm neutral. I used it occasionally when I was using mainly a Mac laptop (my baby, but it is barely functional anymore). It's a solid, safe browser--very Mozillian in some respects--but I'm not a fan of the GUI of whatever version I used. My personal confession: I actually use IE for *browsing* online shopping sites, so that I can be logged in, in Firefox, (i.e. accept cookies) w/o the site having a record of ALL the items I view. It helps avoid some of the really insane product recommendations. THen I just switch to Firefox when I actually buy something. And the one thing that is really bugging me about Firefox 3 right now is the search box on the right side of the toolbar...I *love* the thing and I use it all the time, but there's no way to add Google Images as one of the optional extra engines (which you could in FF 2.x). ::grumps:: Still, though, the make-or-break browser feature for me is Silverlight support. I will answer your question if you give me your iPod. ^_^ ------------------------- Proud captain of the Battlestar Epileptica Seizing the day since 2002 "You should see the way my brain works sometimes." I've been using Firefox since it came out, and have pretty much stayed away from IE. Only time it gets used, is when sites are too stupid not to update their coding, and you see "this page requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher". Firefox does have ActiveX and Script, sorry they're not the same as IE. :P
I like having AdBlock Plus on Firefox, so I can hide all the crap on webpages. I get enough advertisements through the post office. Not necessary to see tons of it online. ------------------------- Michelle-Had LTL resection done to remove scar tissue and left hippocampus 12/4/02 at Univ. of Michigan. Yupp can't help but love and become extremely addicted to the Touch! lol yeah I got a few as well! Just installed a Medical Info app...i'm able to list my meds, conditions, allergies, emergency contacts etc...hopefully will come in handy if someone needs that info and I'm not able to give it. Well..that is if someone thinks to check my ipod! LOL ok..since you have the touch...do you have issues with the battery life!??! Seems like the battery doesn't hold all that long and I've done all the tips the recommend - even sent it back for them to check out but they said they couldn't recreate the problems I was telling them and it was up to Apple standards, then sent it back to me. But battery still not holding as long as they say it should. ------------------------- ========================== age: 36 - diagnosed with E at age 9. But battery still not holding as long as they say it should. Ahh the old battery life, I have been trying to figure out some things on that and am finding out that if your using apps alot like games or some of the other utilities it drains it much faster it. Something to do is to start cutting off some backround programs running if you open up stuff like Safari or if you have the goggle apps or other stuff like the wifi finder running you can cut them off. Some of these can be done by holding down the home button when each program is opend then closing them. Also in the settings windowcut off fetch new data options and the location services options. This should make it run faster when using differnent apps that dont need internet access and if they do just cut the wifi on as neeeded. Should help some but the battery life can be short. also have a wall charger or car charger will be handy to keep around. ------------------------- Brian Epilepsy Video Apples of Gold Heros Page Edited: 03/04/2009 at 12:29 AM by brainskip |

I believe Firefox is vastly better than Internet Explorer--pretty much everything is. But I also think Chrome is faster and less crash-prone than Firefox, largely because it makes each tab its own process in Windows. That means that if a page is running a faulty script that won't end, the rest of your tabs won't be affected. In Firefox when that happens, the whole program gets stalled up, rather than just the page that's causing the problem. The shortfall of Chrome is the lack of extensions and themes. (Though they say that is coming.) Also, doesn't work on Mac. |

I've used firefox for years. I like it because of the speed and the tabs.

Brainskip:
I just got the ipod touch for xmas so it's not that its an old battery. I have pretty much done all the things you are suggesting plus what they list on the Apple site and still having issues with battery life. Very aggravating that it's not holding a charge like it says...even when stricly listening to music. I have the wall/car chargers but it just seems like all i ever do is charge my ipod! I have had a few other issues as well....sometimes the "keyboard" won't type the letters and sometimes using Safari, out of the blue, the screen will go black and it puts me back to the main ipod screen......you have any of that going on?!!? Apple said they couldn't recreate any of those things I've mention, so really all they did was run a diagnostic test and sent it back. Totally confused as to why it wouldn't happen when they had it *sigh*. But I suppose that's how it works for lots of things! lol when you wanna show someone a problem thats happening with something..it works perfectly fine! and they just think you're completely NUTZ!! I see that the general concensus is a lot of people like Firefox.
I have a suggestion to everyone: Go to Google, download Google Chrome and check it out. It's Goggle's version of a web browser. From what I've heard, it fast--I've heard mixed results on whether it's faster or slower than Firefox--it's very streamlined and it's an access portal to most, if not all of the Google apps. Check it out and share your thoughts on it. ------------------------- BUS 374 returns as BUS 432! Idling @ 500 RPM Listen to that diesel engine purrrrrrrr... |

Firefox 3 was the first browser to have Chrome, then Google and IE 8 followed in it's footsteps.

Firefox 3 was the first browser to have Chrome, then Google and IE 8 followed in it's footsteps. Are you saying that Chrome is an off-shoot of Firefox 3? I never really noticed that. ------------------------- BUS 374 returns as BUS 432! Idling @ 500 RPM Listen to that diesel engine purrrrrrrr... |
