Hi,

I have started my daughter on Modified Atkins Diet (MAD) under my neuro and dietician care. She did very well. She was seizure free for 1 1/2 months until my maid accidentally gave her full cream milk instead of fresh cows milk (which was permitted). (She used to get seizure at a predictable 2 weeks interval)She had an attack abt 2 hours after she drank the milk.

Today I suspect my daughter drank a sip of honey (my young niece left her cup on the table) and she fitted about 30 min after she drank the honey.

Do you think both the seizures are caused by the milk and honey????

I am very new to MAD diet. I know a lot of parents are on Ketogenic diet, I appreciate your kind advice/input /tips to make the diet works.

Many Thanks,
Susan

Quick question, it may be nothing? But I wanted to float this bye us guys!!

Owen just had his 1st year post op MRI at MGH! And the NP said that there were three or four cysts (very small less then 3mm) around the area of the resection and one in Owen nasal cavity? Is this something that we guys have heard about; is it common in resection patients?

What do you think? I called back and asked them to review Owen last scans and compare then with this new scan? The NP seems to think it related to the bleed Owen had 1 week post op? Who knows? But this kind of has me a bit worried!! Dr Thile should be back next week so; hopefully we will know something more!!

Gayle I also heard back from the NP on Owen's sleep study and we have to follow up with the sleep neurologist! So it seems he has some kind of arousal parasomnia? Yeah, we knew this!! He'll need another new med and most of the med's we have already tired???? But my theory has always been (FLE) and I'm sticking too it! We don't have to prove it, even though I think they would like us too! But I'm done with that kind of thinking!! But here a tid bit I found to be interesting!!

Gayle

My 9 year old daughter recently got diagnosed with epilepsy. She had two grand malls, many petite malls and was placed on Depakote. The grand malls have stopped but the petite happen every five minutes if she is bored and about every half an hour if she is distracted with things she is interested in. How can that be? My real question is, how can she learn and retain the information she will be taught in her cl***** if she does not know what is going one when she has them? Especially if they are so frequent due to being bored?

Hi Everyone,

Our 4.5 yr old daughter had her 1st and only seizure last year a few days after Christmas. She was diagnosed with BRE and was told to wait and see what happened.

Well, it is almost 9 months later and she has not had another seizure. We moved her bed in the room with us and she was in there awhile and then we moved her back and got a video monitor so I'm pretty confident she has not had another one.

My question is - with BRE is it a good sign that she hasn't had another one? Is that positive in that she may not have more or if so they would be very infrequent? Is it possible that they could start all of a sudden and then be more frequent. I know there are no guarantees in BRE and you never know but I guess I'm just curious as to others experiences with it. Like for those that have frequent seizures with BRE - did it start out that way or vice versa?

Thanks!
