About Dr. Gilliam
Introduction
Does epilepsy impact your mood? Or could depression or anxiety be a side effect of your epilepsy meds? Do you feel anxious, depressed, irritable, or have feelings of fear, panic, or pain that are not easily explained by your seizures or other medical causes for a period of more than two weeks?
The Epilepsy Foundation hosted an online chat on Tuesday, September 19, to address these questions and to discuss the importance of screening for depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. The expert for the chat was Frank Gilliam, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Gilliam is not only an expert in the Epilepsy field but he also created the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy screening tool (referred to as the NDDI-E). If you have mood symptoms that affect your usual activities, you can use the anonymous online NDDI-E tool to screen yourself.
Check out the Transcript of this event for information about the questions Dr. Gilliam answered.
Please check back here or contact Program Manager Erika Mabry at emabry@efa.org for future online events. Due to overwhelming positive response, we are already looking into possible dates for future discussions.
