Health Insurance: Where to Find Health Insurance and How to Pay for It
The Epilepsy Foundation advocates for policy changes and healthcare reforms that benefit people with epilepsy. Access to medical care and the right treatments is important to the health, family, and employment for individuals living with epilepsy and seizures. There are many different types of insurance coverage available to consumers, and recent changes to federal law through healthcare reform (the Affordable Care Act) will expand options for affordable and meaningful coverage for people with epilepsy. On March 23, 2010, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. The Act puts in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that will roll out over four years. While most provisions will not take effect until January 1, 2014, for plans renewed after September 23, 2010, some new protections had already been put into place. People with epilepsy should be sure to review and further research the following insurance programs and options to see if one or more will provide coverage. This guidance discusses:
