Biography: Lewis B. Holmes, M.D.

Lewis B. Holmes, M.D., is an internationally respected expert in genetics and teratology. He is Professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Genetics and Teratology Unit, Pediatric Services, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He specializes in the Epidemiology of Malformations, Hereditary Malformations and Human Teratogens.

Dr. Holmes graduated in medicine from Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, in 1963. He completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital's Pediatrics Unit in 1965, and received fellowship training from Massachusetts General Hospital in Endocrinology in 1966, and at National Institutes of Health in genetics in 1976.

The Genetics and Teratology Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital is maintaining the AED Pregnancy Registry, the first North American registry for pregnant women who are taking antiepileptic drugs. Holmes is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Teratology.
