Brittany Crotteau

Age: 13
Grade: 7
Rice Lake, Wisconsin

Brittany Crotteau was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 2. For her stay-at-home mom, the diagnosis meant she had to find a job with health benefits to cover Brittany's medical expenses. The insurance allowed Brittany's mom to work closely with the family pediatrician to find the right seizure treatment.

Since getting her seizures under control, Brittany enjoys playing with her chickens, rabbits, cows and cats. She also enjoys spending time with her friends -- two of which have epilepsy.

The teenager is also very involved in programs and initiatives at the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin. Her fundraising efforts have raised nearly $5,000.

As an advocate for the 2005 Kids Speak Up! program, Brittany wants people to be sensitive toward children with epilepsy and to treat them like anybody else.
