2005 Kids Speak Up! Participant Biography
Mollie Winninger
Age: 11
Grade: 6
San Diego, California
"I am so glad that I had surgery and that we found out what was causing my seizures."
- Mollie
Mollie is an articulate child who would like to promote epilepsy awareness worldwide. Since her diagnosis, Mollie has endured many challenges including five different medications and the side effects associated with them. She has also had restrictions on participating in certain activities.
In 2002, medical tests revealed that Mollie's seizures were attributed to a mass on her brain, and that surgery could potentially relieve the condition. Her parents opted for the surgery, and 10 months later Mollie was seizure-free. Now, she can dance, swim and even stay up late once in a while. She can do all the things other kids her age enjoy.
Mollie is passionate about advocating for better medications for children with epilepsy. She aims to inspire other children with epilepsy to be all they can be, despite the challenges of living with the condition.
