KSU Participant Joaquin Amos"If more people knew about epilepsy it could help me talk about it more."

Three days after a frantic call to 911, Joaquin was diagnosed with epilepsy. For several months he remained seizure-free, until an episode of status epilepticus.

Joaquin has had many scary moments, as a result of his condition such as hallucinations, migraine headaches, memory loss and slurred speech.

Joaquin enjoys participating in community events that allow him to advocate on behalf of people with epilepsy. Last year during epilepsy awareness month, he handed out cards with information about seizure first-aid. In addition, he raised funds for the Central & South Texas Epilepsy Foundation, where he sold more than $1,000 in raffle tickets, the highest individual contribution.

Despite his set backs, Joaquin continues to exceed the expectations of his parents.
