2006 Kids Speak Up! Participant Biography
Hannah Booth
Age: 14
Grade: 9
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Hannah is an active teenager who loves music, arts and crafts and working with young children as a senior Girl Scout. Going to a special family camp every summer since third grade, including a teen retreat since she was 11, has helped Hannah see that she's one of many people with epilepsy.
Hannah started having complex partial seizures when she was four years old. Her medication keeps her condition steady but she still has occasional, unpredictable seizures. To manage her condition, Hannah makes sure to get plenty of rest and takes her medication faithfully.
Epilepsy is a part of life, "part of me," she says. When making new friends, Hannah explains what happens when she has a seizure, so they can be prepared in case they see it. Because of her experience Hannah understands more about the kinds of disabilities people live with.
This will be Hannah’s first experience with "Kids Speak Up!" She is very excited to talk with Senator Feinstein and she loves to travel. She wants more people to know about epilepsy and understand that it doesn’t have to prevent people from doing the things they love.
