KSU Participant Dominique Williams "Seizures are very scary, from one minute to the next, you're never sure when they're going to happen. People need support from parents, friends and family. They should not be left alone, and schools should be more aware."

The trauma Dominique Williams and her family felt during the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center was highlighted by Dominique's sudden onset of seizures only one week prior. Dominique, however, refused to let her condition make her feel different than her peers.  Although she wondered why this condition manifested itself, she always held her head high in the face of typical adolescent ridicule.

To learn more about epilepsy, Dominique and her family eventually made their way to the Epilepsy Foundation of New York City. There they received the information they long desired. Dominique also got involved with the Foundation's Adventurers Club. By meeting other children living with epilepsy, her confidence was further bolstered and she developed an even more positive outlook on life.
