Robert M. BusseAge: 14 Bob Busse is an outgoing and personable young man who has come a long way from the days when he would have up to a hundred seizures a day and his mother had to hand feed him his medicine by the spoonful. He underwent surgery that removed the abnormal part of his brain and has been seizure free ever since, however, his parents and doctors continue to monitor him closely because there is a chance his seizures may again flair up during adolescence. Now he has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, is on his middle school’s basketball team, volunteers at his local Epilepsy Foundation and is an outspoken advocate for people with epilepsy. “I wish there was a cure for everyone,” Bob said. “Epilepsy is very hard to live with and many kids aren’t eligible for surgery and aren’t able to control their seizures with medications, but they should not be discouraged from activities they want to participate in, because they’re still kids and just wanted to be treated the same as other kids.” |
