Charlie CamutAge: 14
His parents were grateful to learn from a middle-school counselor about Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Charlie’s IEP has helped him become a model student, one who received the Presidential Academic Achievement Award, in fact. They’d like to make sure other parents know about what an important and valuable tool the IEP can be, and how much it can help. They also want to ensure that schools and leaders know how important it is as well, because they’re concerned about their son’s future. “My biggest fear is having a seizure in school and in front of my friends,” Charlie said. “I think my friends will understand and not make fun of me, but what if I’m wrong? I would like to make people aware of what it is like to have seizures and epilepsy. People need to know what epilepsy does to me and everyone else who has it.” |
