Emily KellnerAge: 9
“I would like to teach more people about epilepsy so they understand it and aren’t afraid,” Emily said. “They need to know how many people have seizures and how to help when we need it—and not help when we’re okay.” Emily’s already outspoken about her condition—teaching friends, neighbors, classes and teachers about it. She truly believes she can make a difference and thus volunteers her time and energy at the local Ronald McDonald House, at various nursing homes, and with the Special Olympics. A Girl Scout, Emily inspires others with her sensitivity, empathy, spirit and courage. “I would like the people who make the laws to put aside some money to help find new medicines and a cure for epilepsy,” Emily said. “I would like medicine that helps but doesn’t make me shake. I know there are kids with a lot worse things, so I think I am pretty lucky.” |
