U.S. Senate Supports the ADA Amendments Act of 2008On July 31, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (S. 3406) was introduced to the Senate floor. This bill is very similar to a that the House of Representatives recently passed by an overwhelming margin of 402-17. Both send a strong message that discrimination against people with disabilities, including epilepsy, will not be tolerated, and will overturn several Supreme Court decisions issued in the last decade, marking a historic move toward securing the intention of the original ADA Act that was signed into law in 1990. Currently, over 60 Senators have cosponsored the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, including Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama. We encourage you to email them to thank them for their support. You can do so by visiting the Illinois Epilepsy Action Network website, where you will also learn more about the Illinois Epilepsy Action Network and how you can become involved in fulfilling its mission of empowering and uniting those affected by epilepsy throughout Illinois and nationwide.
