Media Blitz Launches Epilepsy Month!
Update Posted: November 11, 2003
Listen to Monica and Epilepsy Foundation representatives Denise Pease and Eric Hargis discuss epilepsy on The Russ Parr Show.
November is Epilepsy Month, and the Epilepsy Foundation has been working with a number of media outlets to help make sure that information about seizures and epilepsy is heard and seen on radio, television, and the Internet.
And Monica Helps to Get the WORD Out!
This November the Epilepsy Foundation has the help of Grammy winner recording artist Monica in getting the word out about epilepsy, understanding and respect through radio messages, interviews, and a special contest. Since 2000, the Foundation has joined with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to promote and encourage respect for young people with epilepsy through the Entitled to Respect campaign, and this year's promises to be the most successful ever.
Highlights of our Epilepsy Month media activities include:
- The campaign's celebrity endorser, Grammy Award-winning singer Monica, and Epilepsy Foundation representatives will be interviewed on the Radio One network's popular Russ Parr Morning Show. The interview featuring Monica, Denise Pease of the Foundation's national board of directors, and Eric Hargis, the organization's President & CEO, airs at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, Tuesday, November 4, 2003. During the interview Radio One listeners, who began hearing Monica's recorded messages for the campaign when they started airing on October 27, 2003, will have a chance to learn why Monica is helping to get the word out about epilepsy even though she does not have the disorder herself.
- The Honorable Tony Coelho, former Congressman, author of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and chair-elect of the Epilepsy Foundation's board of directors will be a guest on Foundation board member Joyce A. Bender’s Internet-based radio show on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 on http://www.voiceamerica.com. The show will air over the Internet from 2-3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Sandy Finucane, vice-president of legal and government affairs for the Epilepsy Foundation, will also take part in the discussion.
- Mysteries of the Mind, a program about epilepsy in the new syndicated Healthy Living television series, will begin airing on November 14th. The program is now in final production and features Martha Morrell, MD, of the Foundation's board of directors; Eric Hargis; Phil Gattone, executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, and several people with epilepsy. The hour-long documentary will be broadcast on local cable outlets and television stations during the final two weeks of November into December and the New Year.
