The Epilepsy Foundation and its local affiliates throughout the country want to know, how do kids age 10 to 18 define acceptance, tolerance and respect?

Kids that can express themselves through any form of media, be it via an essay, a poem, artwork or music, are encouraged to enter this year's Get the WORD Out! contest. The Epilepsy Foundation hopes that these imaginative kids, by way of their creativity, will be able to help the Foundation dispel myths about epilepsy that hinder the quality of life of those with the condition.

The contest is a fun way to engage youth in learning about epilepsy, and to emphasize how important acceptance, tolerance and respect is to all of us, including young people with epilepsy.

The contest officially begins Oct. 18, and runs through November. All entries sent to local Epilepsy Foundation affiliates must be received by Nov. 30. Each affiliate will judge entrees and award two prizes. One winner will be from the 10 to 13 age group, and the second winner will be from the 14 to 18 age group. Local winners will be announced before January 31, 2005.

Local winners are then qualified to win the Get the WORD Out! grand prize. Each affiliate will forward the winning local entrees to the national office for grand prize consideration. The national office will select four winners who will be announced March 1, 2005.

Everyone who enters the contest will receive a free Get the WORD Out! T-shirt and an educational brochure about epilepsy. Winners of the local contests will receive a digital camera, and the four national grand prize winners will receive a digital camera, printer and other digital imaging kit components.

The Epilepsy Foundation is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, damaged or illegible entries or postage-due mail. No correspondence (including emails) can be answered, and by entering, the entrant agrees that submissions will not be returned and become the property of the Epilepsy Foundation. Entries may be published on the Entitled to Respect website and in related products in any and all media without compensation. Also, parents and/or legal guardians must sign the entry form of youth 13 and younger. Entry forms can be found on the web at http://www.entitledtorespect.org.
