Epilepsy Foundation of South Carolina Announces it Will Close

Epilepsy Foundation affiliate cites loss of funding for its closure.

The Epilepsy Foundation of South Carolina announced it will close its doors at the end of October 2009. A casualty of the ongoing economic downturn, the foundation lost its annual state funding and was also hit by a decline in corporate giving and individual donations. Based on the lack of finanical resources, the local foundation’s board of directors voted to close its offices. Epilepsy Foundation Vice President of Affiliate Relations, Gary Berg, said, “The national office of the Epilepsy Foundation will cooperate with local volunteers now and in the future to reestablish a presence in South Carolina that will support people with epilepsy.”

The Epilepsy Foundation of South Carolina, in conjunction with the Foundation’s national office, has made a concerted effort to provide continuity of service for the estimated 65,000 people with epilepsy living in South Carolina. The Monday after their doors close on October 30, calls to their office will be redirected to the national office for information and assistance.

This closing is a stark reminder of our current difficult economic times; however the Epilepsy Foundation is committed to providing important services to all Americans living with epilepsy and their families.
