Statement on Provider Reimbursement for Epilepsy-Related Health Services

Proper care of persons with epilepsy requires the availability of an array of medical and ancillary diagnostic testing procedures. The necessary studies range from simple to highly complex, including long-term continuous monitoring of brain function. For patients with complicated or poorly controlled seizure disorders, the application of these advanced technologies may be the only route to eventual control of their seizures.

The Epilepsy Foundation of America, as an advocate for persons with epilepsy, believes that all necessary diagnostic procedures must be available to all affected persons. Payment for these services by third party payors according to fair, appropriate and realistic reimbursement schedules is essential to the continued availability and affordability of these necessary diagnostic techniques.
