Fifth-grader's Epilepsy Website Wins Top Award
Alyssa Genna used to think monsters were following her around. But they weren't. Alyssa has epilepsy and when she has seizures, she sees spots that she used to think were monsters. She tells all about her experience with epilepsy on her website, Growing Up With Epilepsy." Alyssa and her fifth grade classmate Daniel Chen designed it, and they won an award from ThinkQuest® Jr.

ThinkQuest® Jr. is a program for boys and girls who like using the Internet to learn new things. Alyssa and Daniel won the top award this year in the Sports and Health category. The website is full of information about epilepsy. Alyssa has a diary, book reviews and even a movie of one of her doctor visits on the website. She also tells what epilepsy is and what to do if someone has a seizure, plus lots of other epilepsy facts.

Alyssa was even on TV! She and Daniel were featured on the news. A lot of Alyssa's friends and family saw her on television. Alyssa gave a workshop for teachers at a computer conference in New York where she lives. She told them about her website and how she designed it.
