Creating Avenues for Parent Partnership

An Educational training program for parents of children with epilepsy.

Creating Avenues for Parent Partnership (CAPP), a new National Institutes of Health-funded educational project sponsored by EFGC and the Indiana University School of Nursing, has been designed to help parents of children with epilepsy who also have significant learning problems.

Through the CAPP program, participants will use interactive education methods to learn about their child's epilepsy and learning disabilities from healthcare professionals, while also having the chance to share their experiences with other parents who are in similar circumstances.

The CAPP program begins with a one-day session during which parents will:

• learn about epilepsy
• learn about goal setting and problem-solving so as to deal effectively with school and health care organizations
• work and share with other parents in similar circumstances

Three follow-up sessions will be scheduled subsequent to the initial session. A $75.00 payment is offered for attendance at the one-day meeting, with further payment upon completion of questionnaires and follow-up sessions.
