Advocacy, Legal Information & Assistance
Dealing with epilepsy can be overwhelming. Not only do you face the struggle of understanding your condition and controlling the seizures, you may face ignorance, discrimination and intolerance among those around you.
The Epilepsy Foundation provides free advocacy and legal information concerning state and local laws and can make referrals to lawyers and to pro-bono legal advice, when appropriate, for discrimination in the following areas:
- Employment
- Housing
- Insurance
- Public Benefits
- Education (I.E.P. and School Integration)
- Transportation
- Law Enforcement
- Emergency Care (paramedics)
Advocates for Epilepsy
Local grassroots advocacy on issues affecting people with epilepsy serves the larger goal of "changing the system." We train volunteers to fight for legislative changes and social policies that benefit everyone. Empower yourself by working with us and other volunteers to effect positive change for all people dealing with epilepsy. Become an advocate for yourself, your children and others as well as for epilepsy research. Want to know how? For more information, contact Tracy Schultz, or call (312) 939-8622.
