Individual and Family Services
Need help coping with epilepsy? Sometimes simple daily living tasks can seem overwhelming for a person experiencing seizures. Our licensed professional staff may be able to help with the following services:
- Life Planning: Get some help planning your life with epilepsy, such linkage to appropriate housing and transportation, parenting strategies and future financial planning for yourself or your child. Learn strategies to work around the barriers that epilepsy presents. Our licensed professional staff is on hand to help. Educational services are available for friends and family members of persons with epilepsy as well.
- Medical: Understand your condition more fully, and learn how to talk to your neurologist -- what questions to ask and how to ask them; also, learn about changes in your lifestyle or alternative techniques that may be available to help control your seizures.
- Community Integration: For individuals with epilepsy, or parents of children with epilepsy who are experiencing difficulties dealing with school systems, community organizations, and other institutions, our staff is available to provide information, advocacy and mediation to support you or your child's success.
- Public Aid/Social Security: Learn whether you qualify for state or federal aid, and get valuable and supportive assistance while applying for benefits or negotiating an appeal.
- Social Activities: Whether it's our downtown social club or one of our annual camps, the Foundation can help people who feel isolated by their condition get out there, meet people, and have some fun!
- Support Groups: Get involved with one of our seventeen support groups located in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. For a list of times and locations, click here.
- Scholarships: Need help paying for school? We may be able to help. The Foundation awards $1,000 scholarships every June for post secondary education or training.
- Referral Services: For more specialized needs, our referral network covers the entire metropolitan area. If we're not able to help, we'll try our hardest to put you in touch with someone who can!
