Vanessa Major

Welcome to My Team S.P.E.E.D. Page!

undefinedMy name is Vanessa Major, mother to Becca Major. I've struggled for weeks now how to put into words the reasons I am running a ½ marathon to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation. I suppose the words are difficult because this topic is my heart, and it is very difficult to encompass in just a few words what we live daily. As most of you know, my 8 year old daughter Becca, has a rare epilepsy syndrome called Dravet's. As her mother, this is a huge load emotionally. As for Becca, well, she toughs it out every single day of her life physically and emotionally but you will never hear her complain. She is brave with an iron will. She truly is an amazing child from whom each of us can learn how to overcome adversity, live by faith and love unconditionally. Becca deserves all the good life has to offer her.

In order to ensure a brighter future for Becca we need to see some forward movement in the area of better treatments or possibly even a cure for her and other kids like her. I am doing my meager part by participating in this ½ marathon to raise funds that will work to that end. Whatever you can give to this cause is greatly appreciated. Becca and her family thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you all.

I love to ride bikes and run for fun and fitness. Many of my closest friends are those I’ve made while doing one or the other of these activities. It is a way of life for me and something I hope to instill in my children. As a family, we do a lot of boating and camping. I also love to read and am on a constant quest for more knowledge regarding epilepsy.

Recently, I was nominated for and now serve on the Board of Directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Central and South Texas. This is a great honor for me in that I feel I am helping to make a difference in the lives of people like my daughter. Epilepsy is a part of our every day lives and we constantly strive to better this existence.
