Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know, epilepsy is near and dear to my heart.  I was training to run a half marathon in Margeaux’s name to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation, but due to an injury will not be able to run.  November is Epilepsy Awareness Month and I feel like I need to do something to support this cause.  I have decided to continue my fundraising efforts for the marathon even though I cannot participate.  I have become very involved with the Epilepsy Foundation of Central and South Texas over the past few months and realize how important this fundraising opportunity is and how many lives it can impact.

It is impossible to put into words what it is like being a mommy to a child with epilepsy.  Many people receiving this email were a great support for me and my family three years ago when Margeaux was finally correctly diagnosed with this seizure disorder.  At the time, we were relieved because this was something that could be managed by medication.  After years of her being poked and prodded with every test imaginable, we were so relieved to finally know what was wrong and what we could do about it.  We went on with our lives as if it were no big deal.  It has only been this past year that I have really begun to understand this illness and how it affects Margeaux.  I meet people daily with stories much more horrific than ours and I am humbled by how much worse this could be.  undefinedAt the same time, I hate that my child endures so much.  Most of you know how we have struggled with Margeaux’s seizures and medication since her diagnosis.  She currently takes 14 pills a day, deals with physical, mental, and behavioral side effects from her meds, sensory issues, and break through seizures, but you would never know it because she takes it all in stride.  I put in this photo of her in the hospital during her EEG to show how happy she was.  She never once complained or cried.  She was only 3.  This was actually the visit where they finally caught her seizures on tape.  Our Florida friends will surely remember that beautiful mess of hair covered in super glue….ugh, don’t get me started!!  While we are so blessed in so many ways, her condition still impacts her daily.  I know it could always be worse, but it is my hope that eventually new research will lead to better treatments and someday a cure for Margeaux and others like her.

undefinedDuring this season of giving I ask that you remember Margeaux and give to this wonderful cause.  Any donation, no matter how great or small, is appreciated from the bottom of our hearts!  Margeaux is fortunate to have good health care, but many others are not.  This money will not only help support ongoing research and development efforts, but also afford people less fortunate than Margeaux with exceptional care.  The foundation also works as an advocate to protect the rights of people living with Epilepsy.

I am setting a personal fundraising goal of $2000.  I picked this amount because this is what it would cost us for a one month supply of the generic form of her medication if we did not have insurance.  Please help me reach this goal!

I appreciate the time you have taken to read this and consider donating to this wonderful fundraiser.  Give up that Starbucks this week, a night out to dinner, that cute top you really don’t need and donate to the Epilepsy Foundation.  Do it for Margeaux!!

Blessings,

Courtney
