Support GroupsHaving epilepsy or caring for someone who does can be very challenging. Sometimes the practical problems of daily living - from insurance, to jobs, to medical care - can seem overwhelming. At other times, it helps just to talk to people who understand what it's like to live with epilepsy. These groups are open to everyone -- see you at the next meeting! Epilepsy Support Groups can be:
Epilepsy support groups are designed to provide peer support, information sharing, and discussion of common interests. They may also include presentations by professionals on topics of interest. The groups listed here are open to anyone affected by epilepsy. The support groups are not intended to furnish medical advice or professional psychotherapy. The views or opinions expressed at these support groups are not necessarily reflective of the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas (EFCST). EFCST hosts several support groups throughout our service area. There are currently (3) adult support groups, and (1) parent support group. Meetings are offered in: Austin, McAllen, and San Antonio. Austin-Family Support Group Austin-Adult Support Group McAllen-Adult Support Group San Antonio-Adult Support Group Telephone Parent Network If there is no support group in your area, EFCST has developed the Parent Telephone Network. This program allows you to have support from your peers over the phone. Participate in the Telephone Network The Epilepsy Foundation of Central and South Texas welcomes Volunteers who would like to begin a support group in their area for people with epilepsy.
