Programs and Services

The Epilepsy Foundation of Central & South Texas offers a variety of structured and multifaceted programs and services created to help address the needs of the epilepsy community throughout Central & South Texas. The Epilepsy Foundation of Central & South Texas (EFCST) serves 79 counties. Below is a description of the current programs and services offered by EFCST. While the list does not include each activity and every event, it does provide an overview of the purpose of each program.   Information and Referral (I&R)

EFCST provides accurate epilepsy information and appropriate referrals to community agencies. We provide persons with epilepsy, families, and service providers with accurate, current information about the disorder, and referrals to appropriate services. We respond to requests for information by telephone, mail, internet and in person. We provide brochures, information sheets and other materials. In addition we offer a lending library of videos, books and pamphlets. For more information contact us staff@efcst.org.


  Community Education

Educating the community is one of the best ways to help people with epilepsy. Community Education is provided through public service announcements, educational presentations and several other programs. To schedule an educational presentation please contact us at staff@efcst.org.


  Outreach & Support Services

EFCST provides Outreach and Supportive Services  to individuals with epilepsy, as well as their families, in efforts to integrate more fully into society.  For additional information  contact us at staff@efcst.org.


  Advocacy

We provide Advocacy and assistance with discrimination issues as well as full community participation. The Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas Advocacy Program assists those who are being discriminated against on the basis of their seizure disorder. Advocacy promotes policies and change that encourage full participation from people with epilepsy and their communities.  For more information contact us at staff@efcst.org.


Mediation and Brokering for Social Services    and Benefits

EFCST assists people with epilepsy in securing social services and other government benefits for which they may be eligible, and assists  by referring to sources of legal help in specific cases.  For more information contact us at staff@efcst.org.


  Speak Up Speak Out Public Policy Network

The Speak Up Speak Out! Public Policy Network protects the rights of people with epilepsy and seizure disorders.  


  Employment Services

The South Texas Employment Program  (S.T.E.P.) is a certified Community Rehabilitation Program (C.R.P.) by the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. S.T.E.P. provides adults with epilepsy employment assistance, epilepsy education, and assistance in accessing community resources.  For additional information contact us at staff@efcst.org


  Seizure Clinics

EFCST offers Seizure Clinics in Austin, Corpus Christi, Eagle Pass, Harlingen, Laredo, San Angelo, San Antonio, Temple, and Uvalde for persons with epilepsy in our service area who do not otherwise have access to specialized medical care. The clinics are funded in part by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

  Support Group Meetings

Support groups promote sharing common experiences and solving individual problems through discussion and mutual support. Visit the Support Group page for additional information on meeting locations and schedules.


  Parent & Family Network

The Parent & Family Network is an opportunity for parents, siblings, and spouses to network with other families. Visit the Parent & Family Network page for additional information.


  Youth Services

We offer a variety of programs for children and teens with epilepsy. Our teen program P.E.E.R.-L.I.N.E. (Promoting Empowering Encounters Related to Lessons in Epilepsy) provides a unique variety of structured learning and interactive activities that address external and internal issues that teens are facing today.  For more information contact us at staff@efcst.org


  Winning Kids Club

The Winning Kids Club is just the place for kids, their siblings, and parents to have fun. We are currently searching for volunteers to facilitate our Winning Kids Club and our Kids On The Block Puppet Program. Please contact staff@efcst.org for additional information.


  Summer Camps

Thanks to the generosity of the Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Texas, we are able to provide youth in our service area the opportunity to attend camps for kids and teens with epilepsy. Registration for kids from our service area is accepted on a space-available basis. Camps provide children with epilepsy a wide variety of educational, recreational, and supportive learning activities.

  • Camp Spike 'n' Wave - a week-long residential camping experience designed especially for children with epilepsy, aged 8-14.
  • Kamp Kaleidoscope - a week-long residential camping experience designed especially to meet the concerns of teens with epilepsy, aged 15-19 years.

  Women and Epilepsy Initiative (WEI)

The Women and Epilespy Initiative offers information about issues unique to women living with epilepsy.
