The Kids on the Block

Our Kids on the Block program uses life-size puppets to teach children not to be afraid of people with seizures. Tailored to elementary school children, this free program is an informative addition to any classroom, library or after school program.

This program uses large hand and rod puppets to teach children and adults about epilepsy. It features Brian McDaniel, a 12 year old who has epilepsy. Brian and his friends tell students about epilepsy so they will not be afraid of people who have seizures.

This program is an opportunity to reach children in the early years to establish a climate of acceptance and understanding of epilepsy and children with epilepsy. Scripts with lively dialogue and situations involving Brian and his friends enable him to talk about his epilepsy.

At the end of the performance, the audience is invited to ask questions. Young students find talking to the puppets fun and non-threatening.

The Kids on the Block is:

  • Appropriate for students in grades 2-6.
  • Informative and educational for school classrooms, libraries or after school programs, scout programs and day camp programs
  • Offered free of charge.

A Kids on the Block performance requires a minimum space of 10 x 10 feet.

We request a 45-60 minute block of time and no more than 60 children per performance.

Volunteers are always needed to bring our puppets to life. For more information on becoming a puppeteer please contact Mary Beth Champagne or Debbie Bain.
