About Us
Our work began in 1955 with six volunteers.
Today, we are fortunate to count MANY volunteers among our supporters, including our:
- 12-member Board of Directors
- Approximately 100 others who contribute their time annually in the fight against seizure disorders.
In 1971, we became an affiliate of the National Epilepsy Foundation of America. However, we are solely responsible for raising our own funds for programs, services, and operating expenses.
Programs for those affected by epilepsy have expanded over the years. Notable milestones include:
- 1961
Medication Assistance program started - 1982
Employment Assistance program started - 1993
Support groups formed and the Employment Assistance program expanded - 1996
Camp Shing started - 1998
Geographic coverage expanded to include all of Kansas - 1999
Youth with Epilepsy Support (YES) group started - 2000
Wraparound case management process started - 2000
Employment Program received 3-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
