Pennsylvania State Funding Restored

Pennsylvania State Funding Restored
July 12, 2011

This year’s final budget, enacted by Pennsylvania legislators, will provide $150,000 from federal Maternal and Child Health Block Grant (MCHBG) funds and $390,000 in a state-funded line item for epilepsy services. This funding was secured despite Governor Tom Corbett’s proposal to eliminate the epilepsy support services line item in the state budget and a House proposal that called for a 35 percent reduction from the previous $600,000.

These funds make it possible for the Epilepsy Foundation affiliates in Pennsylvania to support and help families, particularly those living in central and northern regions of the state.

In these difficult economic times, it took a lot of effort to secure funding at this level. Pennsylvania affiliates of the Epilepsy Foundation and their advocates worked hard to keep in touch, make contact and work with key supporters and other legislators to secure this funding.
