Atlanta Falcons Star Running Back to Lead National Walk for Epilepsy
Jason Snelling Leads Walk Team to Inspire Others
Washington, DC (March 02, 2010) — The Epilepsy Foundation announced today that Atlanta Falcons running back Jason Snelling will participate in the 4th annual Walk for Epilepsy on Saturday, March 27, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
While playing football for the University of Virginia, Snelling often suffered from crippling migraines and dizzy spells. He was eventually diagnosed with epilepsy, but was determined not to let the condition stop him from accomplishing his goals both on and off the field. As a break out star for the Atlanta Falcons, Snelling has used his celebrity to shine a light on epilepsy and help empower youth with epilepsy to accomplish their dreams despite their condition.
The National Walk for Epilepsy, hosted by the Epilepsy Foundation is a family-oriented, noncompetitive, two-mile walk in our nation’s capital. In the last three years, the event has engaged more than 20,000 walkers and raised more than $3 million for research, education, advocacy and services for people with epilepsy and their caregivers.
“I am looking forward to leading my team in the National Walk for Epilepsy again,” said Snelling. “The Walk is an opportunity to connect with other people who are impacted by the condition and let them know that with courage and confidence they too can overcome any obstacles.”
Snelling works closely with the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia to raise funds and create a greater awareness of the condition. He regularly hosts kids with epilepsy at Falcons football games, signs autographs and has recently filmed a Public Service Announcement about living with epilepsy.
He will join other celebrities including Alan Faneca of the NY Jets, Geoffrey Pope of the Philadelphia Eagles and Greg Grunberg, star of NBC’s, Heroes, who will each lead their own Walk teams of friends, relatives and fans.
