The Epilepsy Foundation Salutes the Honorable Frank Keating with National Award at Gala Celebration
WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 7, 2011) – The Epilepsy Foundation announces Frank Keating, former Oklahoma governor and president and CEO of the American Bankers Association, as the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Achievement Award. Former White House correspondent, Sam Donaldson, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the gala celebration at The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. (EDT).
“We are pleased to honor Frank for his vision, leadership and dedicated service to our mission,” said Rich Denness, president and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation. “With his help we can continue our efforts to ensure full access to all available treatments, eliminate barriers people face because of seizures, and support research for new treatments and ultimately new cures for the epilepsies.”
Governor Keating has a personal interest in raising awareness and empowering those affected by epilepsy because of a family member’s experience overcoming the challenges of seizures.
Along with his business success, Keating has a history of helping others. He won national acclaim in 1995 for his handling of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. In the aftermath of the tragedy, he raised more than $6 million to fund scholarships for the nearly 200 children who lost one or both parents.
He is the author of three award-winning children's books -- biographies of Will Rogers, Theodore Roosevelt, and Standing Bear, the Ponca Indian chief who argued Native Americans deserve the same rights as white Americans.
The 2011 Distinguished Achievement Award will be presented during the Foundation’s annual gala celebration, which is supported by sponsors like UCB. This year’s Western-style theme is “Boots and Suits” and the dollars raised will be used to help ‘stomp out’ epilepsy. The Epilepsy Foundation is the largest non-government funder of epilepsy research. For tickets and more information visit http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/gala
